Jacko: What has surprised you the most since coming into the AFL system?

Sam Mayes: i am suprised that marco paparone has lasted without his misses for a couple of months.

Tom: Have any of the boys played any pranks on you yet?

Sam Mayes: we woke up one morning, and closeys car had pizza bases all over the front windscreen, not sure if it was the boys but yeah

Jess: Are you missing SA?

Sam Mayes: sometimes, but keeping busy at the club takes ya mind off it, and keeping around the boys and that helps with that

Jason: Who did you look up to growing up?

Sam Mayes: growing up i supported melbourne, so i was a pretty big shane woewodin fan and brent moloney fan!

Strawbs: Which Lion has the most annoying habbit and what is it??

Sam Mayes: living with michael close its hard not to pick up on habits, but his eating method is very questionable

Jess: Hey Sam, are any of you boys in that house any good at cooking? I can imagine with so many newies it'd be two minute noodles most nights!!

Sam Mayes: suprisingly all of us can cook, and we cook most nights. last night paparone dished up stir fry and it was first class

Jack: hey sam best of luck for this season hoping to see you play plenty of games

Sam Mayes: thanks jack, hope to see ya at the gabba this season!

Matt Geard: What's your ideal position to play?

Sam Mayes: gday matt, ideal position is wherever the team needs me, not too fazed with what position i play.

Jacko: This season what are most looking forward to (apart from your first game in round 1) and what are you least looking forward to?

Sam Mayes: just looking forward to playing at the moment, its been a tough pre season and just looking forward to getting into matches

Frank: Hey Sam, how do you like playing up front? Reckon you'll kick a bag if you get a run this year?

Sam Mayes: love playing up forward, played most of my juniors there. would just love an opportunity at this stage, not looking too far ahead

Strawbs: Who is the most vain Lion? Heard Stakes spends a fair bit of time in front of the mirror.

Sam Mayes: yes stakes does spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, the ladies love him!

Dan: Having just come through the draft system, do you have any advice for someone looking to get draft in the next couple of years?

Sam Mayes: i guess just be professional, make sacrifices that maybe your mates do that could set you back, and enjoy playing and running out onto the park

Jess: Hey Sam, do you think you'll have a go on rocky's challenge this year? Or maybe footy fix..... (much better)

Sam Mayes: oh i dont really know jess, ill have to see if the boys invite me on, it would be a great honour

Sam Mayes: looking forward to playing with everyone really, but blacky, rocky and reddo to name a few

Sam Mayes: woey is probably the favourite coach, there all great coaches though

Sam Mayes: there is always a possibility that it could be back in season 2013.

Smithy: Hey Sam good luck for season 2013, which 3 lions players do you think have had the best pre seasons for the club?

Sam Mayes: jack redden, pearce hanley, claye beams have all been training real well

Sam Mayes: yeah mate, will be having a real crack in the nab cup.

Katie: how are you finding your new house

Sam Mayes: yeah the new house has been good, closey isnt pulling his weight with the house jobs but we have been drilling him about it. but its been good.

Haso: G'Day Sam, great to have you up here and excelling at training. Are you looking forward to having a crack at Jimmy Toumpas when the boys take on Melbourne this year. Assuming you're picked for the seniors of course!

Sam Mayes: yeah if i get the opportunity to play against some of my mates, ill have a fair crack at them.

Matt: How have you found the heat up here in beautiful QLD?

Sam Mayes: very humid and sticky up here in brissy, compared to adelaide. completely different training conditions, but i dont mind it

Nick: what do you reckon your best achievement has been in your footballing so far?

Sam Mayes: being recruited by the brisbane lions, but theres a long way to go yet!

Lmccomb: How are you sammy

Sam Mayes: hi bourkey

Kenny: Dan Merrett was talking about the competitive nature of training sammy, has there been any heated moments?

Sam Mayes: yeah there has been a couple of heated moments, but that’s the nature of the game. off the field the boys are best of mates, but on it, it’s all business

Sam Mayes: favourite house mate is paps, just very relaxed. nick hayes sings a lot and he has a terrible voice so he’s no chance

Jas: what do you think you would be doing if you weren't playing footy?

Sam Mayes: into a carpentry apprenticeship i think.

Jess: Looks like footy fix just got themselves a season worth of material... lizards, really??

Sam Mayes: dont know how you can like lizards, freaky looking things
