The Brisbane Lions will reaffirm their support of flood-affected areas of south-east Queensland when they travel to Toowoomba and surrounding areas next month as part of the 2013 AFL Australia Post Community Camps.

Lions CEO, Malcolm Holmes, said the Club was committed to playing its role in the recovery process following the recent devastating floods.

All Lions players and coaches will travel to Toowoomba and surrounding regions on February 15-16 for the Camp.

“The 2013 AFL Australia Post Community Camps is an incredibly important vehicle for Clubs to get out and involved in communities right around the country,” Holmes said today.

“Given the impact of the recent floods on Queensland – this camp is even more important.

“Our players and coaches will depart Brisbane with the goal of putting smiles on the faces of kids in the region – particularly those impacted by the floods, some for the second time in almost as many years.”

At this stage, Lions players will also travel to Laidley and Grantham as part of the Camp, however Holmes said the Club was mindful of not being a distraction to clean-up efforts.

“The last thing we want to do is get in the way of the clean-up,” Holmes said.

The Lions, AFL, AFLQ and the Gold Coast SUNS remain in ongoing discussion with regards to what role the industry can play in the recovery process.

Donation collection tins have been set up at the Lions’ social club, LIONS@springwood, located in the Logan region.

A full itinerary of the Lions’ 2013 AFL Australia Post Community Camp will be released next week in the lead-up to the trip.
