James Polkinghorne and Billy Longer can both accept reprimands after being cited by the AFL Match Review Panel for separate incidents from last Sunday’s match against Melbourne.
Polkinghorne was reported by the field umpire for tripping Melbourne’s Michael Evans during the first quarter.
The charge was deemed to be a Level Two offence, resulting in 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. However, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. With no existing good or bad record, an early plea will reduce the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards Polkinghorne’s future record.
Longer was charged with a Level One engaging in rough conduct offence (125 demerit points, one-match sanction) for engaging in rough conduct against Sam Blease – also during the first quarter.
In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.

Meanwhile, contact between Dayne Zorko and Melbourne’s Luke Tapscott from the fourth quarter was assessed.
Zorko handballed the ball to a teammate, before being met with a bump by Tapscott. Zorko then pushed Tapscott to the ground and a free kick was paid against him for high contact.
After viewing all available footage, it was the view of the panel that Zorko’s action was not a striking motion and the free kick paid against him for high contact was sufficient penalty. No further action was taken.
