Superstar midfielder Simon Black’s race to be fit and ready in time for Round One remains on track according to Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton.

In his latest Bupa Recovery Report on LIONSTV, Burton even suggested that Black might be available to play in the Lions’ final NAB Cup match.

Black and Brent Staker are the two most senior Lions players vying to be available for the start of the regular season.

Ruckman Matthew Leuenberger, meanwhile, successful got through last week’s intra-club match – his first competitive hit-out since hurting his Achilles in Round 3 of 2012.

Please find below the updated recovery status on Black, Staker, and Leuenberger.

Brent Staker:
“He’s come out of surgery and is travelling well. He’ll have a 6-8 week rehab. He’s obviously taking it pretty easy at the moment, with plenty of ice and rest.” – Brett Burton

Matthew Leuenberger: “Luey’s going really well. He played half a game (in the intra-club match). We’ll probably look at getting him back (on the field) in Round 2 or 3 of the NAB Cup.” – Brett Burton

Simon Black: “Blacky’s up to 100% straight-line running, so he’ll likely play in Round 4 of the NAB Cup.” – Brett Burton
