Josh Green reflects on the team’s day two hike up Mt Humphrey’s
Today’s hike up Mt Humphrey’s was good, but tough.
The walk up wasn’t too bad, but once we got to the saddle and then continued on to the summit, that was the hardest bit.
Then the trip back down the mountain seemed to take forever.
We went in four groups – and I was part of the ‘Blue Team’ with Jed Adcock, Pearce Hanley, Jack Redden, Ash McGrath, Stef Martin, Rohan Bewick, Nick Hayes – and we also had Hassy (Matt Hass), Brett Burton and Selwyn as our staff.
Our group was really good, and we pushed up the mountain pretty quickly which helped.
Thankfully we didn’t get lost – unlike one of the other teams. It probably helped that we had Hassy who’d done the hike it before so he knew the track well.
We also overtook the ‘Yellow Team’ three or four times – they had a few blokes who struggled and kept holding us up.
Ryan Lester was one of the guys who found it tough, he just couldn’t handle it. Our trainer Kent Papworth also struggled a little bit. But they’ll both be better for it.
Our team were all pretty capable, although I probably should give our Captain Jed Adcock a good plug, because he got out in front and led our group really well.
He was pretty vocal and made sure he helped out if anyone needed it.
It was a great feeling to get to the summit, although it was a lot colder up there than it was at the saddle – obviously because you’re up much higher and you cop the wind.
All in all, it would have to rank second or third as one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my time at Brisbane – probably only behind the SERT camp we did a couple of years ago.
Fortunately the body has pulled up alright; I’m just a bit tired and run down at the moment.
