Senior coach Chris Fagan has kept to his principles of backing his players and stuck with the team that suffered a disappointing loss to Geelong last week.
The Lions’ completed the major training session of the week out at Blacktown Sports Complex in Wester Sydney today where any questions over the availability of Hugh McCluggage (shoulder) and Mitch Robinson (corkie) were answered.
Both completed the session to retain their place in an unchanged line-up to take on GWS at Giants Stadium on Saturday night.
Brisbane’s 27 point loss to the Swans in Sydney ended a four game winning streak but Fagan believed the game came down to one poor quarter, the third, and said he was prepared to accept it was out of character for the team and was happy to give any underperforming players the chance at redemption.
The last time Brisbane played GWS in Sydney was one of the club’s best wins of 2019 but their most recent clash, last year’s semi-final, was a heartbreaker for Lions fans as the Giants advanced to a preliminary final with a three point victory.
Mitch Robinson, who missed that match through injury, Brandon Starcevich, Tom Berry, Ryan Lester and new recruits Callum Ah Chee and Grant Birchall are the only current Lions who did not play that semi-final.
