Imagine turning up to play a friendly game of ‘touch football’, only to find out that you’ll be lining up against some of the AFL’s all-time greats…

That’s what confronts some of the AFL 9s participants in the Brisbane area, with Lions Senior Coach Michael Voss set to make his on-field return in the local nine-a-side competition.

Voss will join fellow Lions coaches Adrian Fletcher, Shane Woewodin and Gary O’Donnell in the star-studded roster.

The quartet has two Brownlow Medals and four Premierships between them, and has combined for almost 1,000 games of AFL experience.

A host of other Club football staff will make up the rest of the side, while the likes of Jamie Charman and Nathan Clarke have apparently put their hands up to occasionally ‘fill-in’ should they struggle to get numbers.

AFL 9s is a fast, free-flowing game that involves nine players on each team playing on a smaller field.

Essentially, it's mixed touch football with no tackling or bumping - making it suitable for people of any age or skill level - which is run all year round.

Even though AFL 9s promotes a fun and relaxed activity, there’s no doubt the competitive juices will kick in once these former stars cross the white line.
