The Brisbane Lions today finalised a deal with the Gold Coast that will see the Club secure a range of quality draft selections - including the prized Pick No.5.

The Lions will also gain Pick No.25 (on-traded from Collingwood), Pick No.27 and Rohan Bewick as a previously listed or previously nominated player from the Gold Coast.

20 year-old Bewick - the nephew of former Essendon premiership player Darren Bewick - is a hard-running midfielder who averaged 20 disposals per game and kicked 15 goals from 16 senior WAFL matches with West Perth in 2010. He also received West Perth's 2010 Rookie of the Year award.

The Lions have already allowed utility Jared Brennan to sign with the Suns as an uncontracted player and, in return, received a compensation pick from the AFL.

That compensation pick was then traded back to the Gold Coast together with the Lions' first round selection (Pick No.10 overall) and third round selection (Pick No.48 overall).

Lions National Talent Manager Rob Kerr was delighted with the outcome of the trade and believes the Club is now well equipped heading into next month's AFL National Draft.

"Being able to secure Pick No.5 proved a significant upgrade for us," Kerr said.

"There will be some elite talent among the early selections this year, and we were determined to push up into the early bracket to be certain of drafting one of those players."

"It really places this Club in a strong position for what will be a compromised draft," he said.

"We are now looking at having four selections in the top 30 or so which gives us the option to possibly retain the compensation pick we received for Michael Rischitelli to use in the future."

"Involving Jared Brennan as part of a deal with the Gold Coast has essentially elevated us five spots in the all-important first round of the National Draft and also delivered us another first round pick, the first pick of the second round as well as promising young wingman Rohan Bewick."
