MIDFIELDER Josh Drummond has given his best indication yet he wants to remain at the Brisbane Lions, despite becoming a restricted free agent at season's end.

Drummond is in his eighth season for the club but can field offers from rival clubs, which if the Lions cannot match, he is free to accept.

However, the 29-year-old defender says he is not interested in moving from the Lions.

"I'd love to finish my career as a one-club player and a Brisbane Lions player," Drummond said.

"I definitely love playing for the footy club and I'd love to be part of the future"

Drummond has endured a wretched run of injuries over his career, restricting him to just 85 games since making his debut in 2005.

After hip problems curtailed his pre-season, Drummond has played six of the past seven matches and is slowly regaining form.

Drummond said he wasn't distracted by contract negotiations and was fully focused on his improvement.

"Given the last few years my focus is not looking much further than tomorrow's training and the weekend's game because I can't afford to given my track record," he said.

"I think it's important I get through a year and get that resilience back in my body and be able to play footy week in, week out. We'll wait and see."

Drummond said after missing a chunk of the pre-season it was the little things he found hardest to regain.

Things like strength in the contest and keeping his feet took the longest to return.

"I sort of feel like a young player again, just a lot of little things to work on and get back to playing consistent football," Drummond said.

"I feel like I'm slowly building but a long way to go.

"The body's feeling good. I'm just enjoying playing footy again. From a team point of view we'd like to have a few more wins and personally I feel I've got a lot more to contribute."

Drummond said Sunday's opponent, West Coast, presented a huge challenge for the Lions.

"We have to be really good inside and try and win that contested ball," he said.

"We have to get off to a good start and drive it from there … they're going to come over here in terrific form and full of confidence and it's up to us to get a good scalp before the bye."

Drummond, vice-captain Jed Adcock and reliable small defender/forward Ash McGrath (unrestricted) are all on the free agency list after this season.
