Amon Buchanan will line up for his last match in Lions colours this Saturday when the Club’s Reserves head to Canberra to face Queanbeyan in the NEAFL Inter-Conference Championship.

Buchanan, who announced his retirement at the Club Champion dinner earlier this month, had his tenure extended for one more week following last week’s Northern Conference Grand Final victory over NT Thunder.

In what proved a fitting Brisbane farewell, he was the team’s leading possession winner (with 38 disposals) and played a key role in delivering the Club its first State League Premiership since 2001.

Reserves Coach Nathan Clarke told The Canberra Times that Buchanan would be among the 10 or so listed Lions players that would be heading to the nation’s capital for the NEAFL finale.

Clarke said that Jordan Lisle, who kicked five goals against the Thunder, was likely to play along with Cheynee Stiller and Aaron Cornelius.

However, the likes of young Lions Patrick Karnezis and Jack Crisp are expected to be put in cotton wool to give them the best chance of completing a full pre-season.

''There's no doubt at the moment your conference Grand Final is the one you really want to win because you play against those sides for the majority of the year,'' Clarke told The Canberra Times.

''This is the first time these two clubs have ever played, so it's not like there's any history or rivalry. It's two teams that won't have a whole lot of idea about each other.''

The full Lions Reserves team will be revealed on Friday.
