New Lion Brent Moloney has lived in Victoria for most of his life, but says he will be right at home amongst the country Victorians at the Brisbane Lions.

While Jonathan Brown is one of Warrnambool’s most famous exports, Moloney also grew up in the same hometown.

Fellow 28-year-old Matt “Goose” Maguire also hails from the region.

Moloney played junior football with Maguire and is confident that his old mate will help him settle in.

“Matty Maguire, big Goose, he’s one of my good mates and I’m looking forward to playing with him and becoming teammates again,” Moloney told lions.com.au.

“I might stay with Matty for awhile, and I’m sure he’ll show me around.”

“Browny is from the same town that I’m from so we’ll have something in common there.”

Alongside Brown, Moloney said he was looking forward to working with one of the best in the business - evergreen Lions midfielder Simon Black.

“They’re the kind of guys you look up to - Simon Black’s been an elite midfielder for 10-12 years.”

“I can’t wait to work with all the players - we’ve got a good mix of young and old.”

But for one of the competition’s toughest midfielders who’s copped a few tags in his day, there’s no hard feelings against his new teammates for encounters in past meetings.

Moloney joked that there was a line out the door of players he’d had run-ins with during his time on the field.

“Rainesy used to give me a few cheeky ones, and Polkinghorne!”

“Now I’m just looking forward to being their teammate.”
