Lions Vice-Captain Simon Black has been gradually closing in on fellow midfielders Michael Rischitelli and Luke Power over the past couple of weeks in the race to claim the team’s highest overall AFL Dream Team points total for 2010.

Black has averaged an incredible 128 points in the past two games since missing the Round 13 match against the Tigers through illness.

The Brownlow Medallist had the second highest Lions score last week against Carlton (behind Matthew Leuenberger) and backed it up last Saturday night against St Kilda with a team-high 139 points.

Black collected 29 disposals, took nine marks, laid seven tackles and kicked a goal to finish ahead of team-mates Tom Rockliff (110) and Jack Redden (107) in AFL Dream Team points for Round 15.

He remains in third place overall with 1,212 points, but has made up some ground on second-placed Power (1,229) and runaway leader Michael Rischitelli (1,439).

Black’s effort is even more remarkable considering he has missed two matches and spent a considerable amount of time of another sidelined with a tight calf.

Young Lion Jack Redden has been the other big mover of late and currently sits in fourth position overall at the Club with 1,177 points.

Redden was a worthy recipient of this week’s AFL Rising Star nomination and leads the Club in total tackles in 2010 with 88.

In the Lions’ Dream Team League, Stephen Linton has maintained his position at the top of the table while CheyneB Brooke is still hot on his heels in second placed.

But Victor Roussidis’ team - ‘Vulture Street End’ - earned the Round 15 honours with a league-high 2,323 points.

Among the actual Lions players, Ash McGrath edged past Justin Sherman for the first time this year - albeit just three places ahead.

Registered Dream Team participants are reminded to have their teams in before the Round 16 lockout at 7:30pm this Friday.
