The Lions Reserves will be determined to get back on the winners’ list against Mount Gravatt this Saturday after suffering their first loss in more than two months against Gold Coast last weekend.

It will be the second time this month that the Lions have met the Vultures, following their meeting at Sherwood back in Round 14.

On that occasion, the Lions prevailed by 173 points with Aaron Cornelius, Jordan Lisle, and Claye Beams kicking 16 goals between, while Richard Newell and Patrick Karnezis ran amok in the midfield.

However, Reserves Coach Nathan Clarke is expecting a much closer encounter this time around.

“We’re playing at Mt Gravatt’s home ground and will have fewer senior-listed players available than when we played them last time,” Clarke said.

“We’re also coming off a tough loss to the Suns, while they’re fresh from a good win over Morningside.”

“They’ll also be fired up for their Captain Josh Vearing, who I believe is playing his last game for the club before heading to the Sunshine Coast for work.”

“The Vultures have a lot of good players in their team who can trouble the opposition.”

“They have Chris Smith, who used to be on Fremantle’s list, and a couple of former Lions rookies in Sean Yoshiura and Jake Furfaro,” he said.

“They’ve also got Vearing, Nathan Gilliland - a former Grogan Medallist - the Scott brothers, and Gavin Grose. We’ll definitely need to be on our game.”

Clarke said that his team would be without Amon Buchanan who injured his knee against the Suns, but remained hopeful of potentially regaining a couple of others.

“Unfortunately it looks like we’ll be without Amon, and depending on how the senior boys pull up, they might decide to send a couple of travelling emergencies over to Perth as well.”

“Sam Sheldon and Billy Longer are outside chances to come back after missing last week,” he said.

The Lions Reserves will play Mt Gravatt at Dittmer Park (Klumpp Road, Upper Mount Gravatt) this Saturday 28 July from 1:30pm.
