Lions on the big screen
Melbourne-based Brisbane Lions fans will be able to watch their team play LIVE on television every weekend at the Oxford Scholar Hotel.
Only two of the Lions’ 22 matches are scheduled to be broadcast on free-to-air television (Channel 7) in Victoria this year - the Round 2 Easter Thursday blockbuster against Carlton (Thursday 5 April) and the Round 14 clash against Melbourne at the Gabba (Sunday 1 July).
The remaining matches will be shown LIVE only on FOXTEL.
Fortunately, the Oxford Scholar Hotel (located at 427 Swanston Street in Melbourne’s CBD), has committed to showing ALL Lions matches LIVE on its big screen throughout the 2012 season.
This provides non-pay TV subscribers with a suitable venue to watch the Lions play every week - regardless of where the match is being played.
The Oxford Scholar Hotel is a family friendly - and, more importantly, Lions friendly - venue which hosted a handful of popular Club big screen events in 2011.
The hotel is owned and run by long-time Lions member Malcolm Wulf, and is equipped with bar and dining facilities, a huge projector screen TV, TAB area and a pool table. A number of unique Lions memorabilia items also adorn the bar.
Malcolm is usually on hand to talk footy with his fellow supporters, and is often found joining in the chorus of cheers after every Lions goal.
He is also generously offering Lions members a 10% discount off all meals purchased on Club match-days - but only upon presentation of their 2012 membership card.
You can check the venue out for yourself by visiting www.theoxfordscholar.com.au or feel free to call them directly on 03 9663 1619 for more information.
The Club also plans to host four special big screen events at The Oxford Scholar in 2012 at nominated non-Victorian matches.
These events will include a range of other FREE Lions activities on the night (during the breaks in the game of course) including trivia and first-goal competitions.
The following Lions matches have been nominated for ‘special big screen events’ throughout the year:
• Round 4: Lions v Gold Coast @ The Gabba (Saturday 21 April, 7:40pm)
• Round 8: Lions v GWS Giants @ The Gabba (Sunday 20 May, 1:10pm)
• Round 16: Lions v St Kilda @ The Gabba (Saturday 14 July, 7:40pm)
• Round 21: Lions v Adelaide @ The Gabba (Saturday 18 August, 7:40pm)
So if you don’t already have FOXTEL, be sure to make The Oxford Scholar your home for watching Lions matches LIVE on TV in 2012.
Meanwhile, ALL Lions matches will be broadcast into Queensland on free-to-air television multi channels, either live or on delay.
This means that local fans will get to watch their team on either Channel 7 or its sister station - 7TWO.
However, Brisbane-based Lions fans are still encouraged to watch away games with their fellow supporters at LIONS@springwood.
The Lions’ social club, located at 2 Pannikin Street in Rochedale, will also show EVERY Lions away match LIVE throughout the season.
The Sports Bar facility alone features nine huge 65” plasma screens, full Sky and TAB racing services as well as Fox Sports 1, 2 and 3 and Keno.
LIONS@springwood members have the luxury of sitting in either the booths or hi-bars and - if they’re feeling active - can play on the two centrally located 8-ball tables.
Each booth also provides groups with an option of enjoying a more intimate setting with their own private plasma TV screen.
