BRISBANE Lions coach Michael Voss says he felt helpless in the final quarter of Sunday's 98-point loss to West Coast as his team conceded 11 goals in an ugly Patersons Stadium fade-out.

The Eagles piled on five goals in seven minutes to open the final term on Sunday, with captain Jonathan Brown's goal in the final minute saving the Lions from their first triple-figure loss this season.

After falling 34 points down at quarter-time, Voss said very little the coaches tried on Sunday worked and his players just had to "grind out" their third loss in four games.

"The die was cast pretty early and we had to try and fight our way back for most of the game," Voss said on Sunday night.

"That's where you do feel pretty helpless as a coach where you want to do something to try and help, but what you're doing is just not working.

"There's been signs a little bit over the last couple of weeks that we were just bordering on the line of something like that.

"It was a pretty poor performance last week [but] Gold Coast weren't good enough to finish us off.

"They (the Eagles) are good enough to finish you off and we got our whack."

Brown, who was collected high by West Coast captain Darren Glass in the fourth quarter, was cleared of injury on Sunday, but defender Matt McGuire will have to have an ankle injury assessed.

Voss said he was unsure of the extent of any injury, with McGuire subbed out of the game in the third quarter.

"We'll call it a sprain, but it could be more significant than that," the coach said. "We'll get scans on Monday or Tuesday, just to find out what the extent of that is."
