Legend sees strong finish
Club Legend Kevin Murray believes the Brisbane Lions have an opportunity to finish the 2012 season off on a high note
It was the Lions’ second such reunion-style event for 2012 - following the one held at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne back in May - and featured such names as Tim Notting, Gilbert McAdam, Trent Bartlett, Marty Warry, Troy Clarke, Peter Wood, Ben Harris, Dion Scott and Barry Padley to name a few.
Murray himself was reunited with some of his former Fitzroy team-mates who now reside in Queensland.
“It was just great to be part of it,” Murray said.
“Kevin Darrigan was there - he’s around 80 now, but he and I sat on the bench during my first game.”
“I also got to catch up with Ken Grimley, Arnie Bench, Stewie and Ron Duncan, Gary Lazarus and a number of others.”
“I even had the privilege of being on the ground after the siren sounded, and was able to give Vossy a cuddle.”
“I had a mighty time and didn’t end up getting to bed until around 3am.”
The nine-time Club Best & Fairest also spent time in the Lions’ change rooms after the match where he interacted with the current-day players for the first time since the memorable Hall of Fame event in June.
Murray hopes the stirring victory against the Crows will provide the team with some renewed confidence as they strive to finish the season on a high note.
“Geez they fought back well,” he said.
“That win against Adelaide topped their season off - but they can’t just sit back now and wait for the season to end.”
“It would be fantastic if they could win their remaining games and finish the year off strongly.”
“If they can do that, it will give all those kids a lot of encouragement for next year.”
