Belief within the group: Voss
Brisbane Lions coach, Michael Voss, says the retention of three more of the Club’s rising stars is a reflection of the belief developing within his playing grou
Young guns Pearce Hanley, James Polkinghorne and Niall McKeever, all 22, re-signed with the Lions on the same the Club announced a new deal for fan favourites Simon Black.
“It’s good to be able to see that we do have that core of young players who want to stick together, and want to re-sign - it affirms that we’re all on the same page and going in the same direction,” Voss said.
“To sign Blacky as well as the three young guys is almost symbolic of where we’re at as a footy Club now - we’ve got the younger players coming through and taking ownership of the team with the support of our older guys.
“Now, we are focused on getting a tough, solid pre-season into the guys and continuing to build that momentum and planning for 2012.”
The retention of the young trio followed contract extensions earlier this year for Daniel Rich, Tom Rockliff, Matthew Leuenberger, Patrick Karnezis, Jared Polec and Ryan Harwood, in a major boost for the Lions.
The Lions resume pre-season training on November 7.
