Brisbane Lions veteran Simon Black will have surgery tomorrow morning after fracturing his hand during last night’s game against Carlton.

Black is expected to be sidelined for between three to four weeks.

The 298-game midfield star had scans today after sustaining the injury during the final quarter of the Carlton game.

“Simon’s obviously extremely disappointed, as all Lions members would be,” said Lions General Manager - Football Operations, Dean Warren.

“He’ll have surgery tomorrow and we expect him to miss between three to four weeks. With Simon sidelined I’m sure the coaching staff will now look to give one of our younger players an opportunity.”

The Lions’ have a nine-day turnaround between games with their next clash against Fremantle at Perth’s Patersons Stadium next Saturday.

That game will mark the return from injury of skipper Jonathan Brown (cheekbone). Brown, who is closing in on 500 career AFL goals, has earmarked the Lions’ QClash battle against Gold Coast SUNS on April 21 as his return to the Gabba.
