Members choose Redden
Jack Redden joined elite company when he was crowned Members' Player of the Year at the 2012 Club Champion dinner
The honour is solely voted upon by Lions members, who are invited to cast their votes online at lions.com.au using the familiar 3-2-1 voting format at the end of each match.
Not surprisingly, three of the Club’s all-time greatest, and most popular, players - Simon Black (winner in 2007 and 2011), Luke Power (2008) and Jonathan Brown (2009, and 2010) - dominated the award in the first five years of its existence.
So when Jack Redden was crowned the ‘Members’ Choice’ at the 2012 Club Champion awards dinner, he joined elite company.
Redden accepted the honour from loyal Lions member Luke Edwards, who awarded the 21 year-old more votes throughout the season than any other member.
Fan favourite Simon Black was Runner-Up in member voting, closely followed by Tom Rockliff who finished just 17 votes behind in third.
In one of the closest counts in the award’s history, less than 50 votes separated first from third after Round 19, before Redden’s stunning final month of the season saw him the runaway winner by almost 300 votes.
Daniel Rich finished a close fourth, while newcomer Dayne Zorko rounded out the top five.
Interestingly, eventual Club Champion Joel Patfull finished 13th with just 206 votes.
Patfull, whose ability to perform his role each week earned him the Club’s highest individual honour from the Lions’ Match Committee, obviously didn’t attract the same attention from the fans.
The Club would like to once again thank all those members who submitted their votes each week, and look forward to even greater participation in 2013.
