In the lead-up to last year’s AFL Draft Combine, the Brisbane Lions saw East Fremantle wingman Elliot Yeo as a genuine draft prospect for the Club.

By the time the Combine was over, he had more than justified the recruiters’ keen interest.

In fact, Yeo proved one of the standouts among the talented crop of 2011 potential draftees, finishing first in the standing vertical jump (78cm) and agility run (7.8 seconds), equal second in the kicking test (87%), and equal seventh in the running vertical jump (85cm).

Yeo later admitted that he wasn’t aware of exactly how well he had tested.

"To be honest I didn't think I'd go that well, but I was obviously pretty happy and overwhelmed with what I did," Yeo said.

"I didn't get any feedback until the last day when the Lions pulled me up and asked me how I went. I 'I don't have a clue' and they slammed down this bit of paper to show me.”

"I like to think I've got clean hands but my athleticism and my jump is part of my game that is pretty handy."

Lions National Talent Manager Rob Kerr said Yeo’s performance at the 2011 AFL Draft Combine helped reaffirm the Club’s view on the teenager.

Fortunately for Kerr and his team, they were able to ultimately recruit Yeo with Pick No.30 (a compensation selection which was received from the Western Bulldogs in exchange for Justin Sherman during the 2010 Trade Period) at the 2011 AFL National Draft.
