Fresh from an outstanding 78-point win over Southport last Saturday, the Lions Reserves look set to have their stocks bolstered further as they approach their Round 4 NEAFL clash with Redland.

Xavier Clarke and Matt Maguire have overcome their early season injuries and will be available for selection this week.

While Maguire could potentially slot straight back into the senior team considering he uderwent a full pre-season, Clarke will certainly return through the Reserves.

"Fingers crossed we get Xavier back this week," Lions Reserves coach Nathan Clarke said.

"We could potentially have up to 18 players available to us this weekend which might be tricky considering we are only allowed to have 14 listed players on the field at any one time."

Among the many positives from the Lions' resounding win was the successful return by defender Josh Drummond who got through his first official match in 12 months.

"Drummo did what he had to do," Clarke said.

"He hadn't played for 12 months, so we eased him back through with some valuable minutes."

Clarke was pleased with the efforts from the entire side who really kicked into gear after quarter time.

"It was a great win. We haven't beaten Southport like that for a while," he said.

"We kicked 9.3 to nothing in the second quarter - and we only had two of those in the first 11 minutes of the term."

"The guys really lifted their workrate after quarter time and we really matched them physically as well. Their overlap from half-back was just fantastic."

"I could say something positive about every one of our players. It was a great team effort."

"Claye Beams and Amon Buchanan were dynamite. They were just terrific all day. Beams probably covered the most territory, he was everywhere!"

"Bryce Retzlaff also worked his way into the game. He's hit the scoreboard for three weeks in a row now and would be right in line for senior selection if a spot became available."

"Our NSW/ACT Scholarship player Richard Newell was also outstanding. We played him in a tagging role on Sharks star Matt Payne after Payne kicked two goals early."

"Richard did a great job on him, particularly in the second and third quarter. At one stage he smothered a Payne kick out of defence and ran on to kick a lovely goal."

The Lions Reserves will now face the vastly improved Redland Bombers this Sunday at Victoria Point Oval.

Redland boast a similar win/loss record (1-2) as the Lions and feature a number of familiar faces.

"Redland are probably in a similar position to us at the moment. They only have one win, but still have a percentage of over 100 after two narrow losses against quality sides," Clarke said.

"They are a better team than their current record would suggest. They're always tough to beat at home and are notoriously a high-scoring team."

"They've got some quality players including some former Lions in Travis Johnstone, Anthony Corrie, Scott Clouston and Daniel Dzufer - so it will be a reunion of sorts."
