Josh Green was just one of the many young Lions players who emerged last season to stake claim to a more regular senior position.

Green managed 12 senior matches in 2012 – after managing just five in his debut season – and his 15 goals ranked him seventh overall at the Club.

As he approaches his third AFL season, the speedy Tasmanian says he’s ready to come out of his shell and become a more vocal member of the team.

“One thing I really need to keep working on is my leadership and voice, because I’m not the most outspoken sort of bloke,” Green told lions.com.au.

“It’s a maturity thing, which comes with getting the confidence to do it week-in week-out on the track.”

“It’s about pulling others up when they make a mistake – but not getting angry with them – and just explaining what they’re doing wrong so they can improve, and we can improve as a team.”

Green’s 2012 campaign was highlighted by a stunning three-goal performance as the team’s substitute, which lifted the Lions to an upset win over the West Coast Eagles in Round 10.

The 20 year-old ranks that particular match alongside with his Premiership -winning days with Clarence in the local Tasmania League, as one of the most memorable moments of his young football career.

More importantly, it has helped further fuel his desire to both improve as a player, and contribute towards greater success with the Lions in the future.
