The Brisbane Lions have named a strong side to take on the West Coast Eagles in their AFL season opener this Saturday night at the Gabba.

The team contains six players who will don the Lions guernsey for the first time in a senior match including 19 year-old Todd Banfield who is set to make his AFL debut against the Eagles.

Banfield was recruited from Swan Districts with Pick No.41 at the 2008 National Draft and is one of six former West Australian lining up for the Lions this weekend.

Meanwhile, Brendan Fevola, Amon Buchanan, Andrew Raines, Brent Staker and Matt Maguire have all earned their spots in the senior team after crossing from other clubs over the off-season.

Maguire has been named at centre half-back and will finally reach his 100-game milestone after playing 99 matches in eight seasons with St Kilda.

Cheynee Stiller, Tom Rockliff, James Hawksley and James Polkinghorne were among a handful of unlucky Lions to miss out on senior selection for Round One.

The full Lions team for Round One includes:
