CHARLIE Cameron plans on using his blistering pace to get by his 2019-stopper Dylan Grimes when Brisbane squares off with Richmond in a Tuesday night blockbuster at Metricon Stadium.

Grimes kept his fellow All Australian to two goals from just seven disposals in round 23 last season and then one goal from seven touches in the qualifying final two weeks later as the Tigers won both times.

On those occasions, Cameron often played out of the goalsquare, engaging in battles of strength that Grimes easily won.

Cameron said he had "learnt a lot" and things would be different this time around.

"Last year I was a lot deeper," he said.

"I think I'll try and get up the ground more.

"I had (Nick) Haynes on me a couple of weeks ago, I took him up the ground and tried to beat him back.

"I think I'll try and do that.

"If I get him, I get him. If I get a smaller player I'll still play the same role and get up the ground and get back to goals, use my speed instead of trying to wrestle with bigger blokes.

"I look forward to the match-up if I get him."

Cameron: It'll be a cracking game

Charlie Cameron is looking forward to the challenge against Richmond this Tuesday night. Brisbane has not won against Richmond since 2009.

Grimes marshals an excellent Richmond defence that includes emerging youngsters Noah Balta and Derek Eggmolesse-Smith, along with reliable Nathan Broad and Jayden Short.

Cameron, who has kicked at least one goal in 25 successive matches, is currently third in the Coleman Medal race with 19 goals, trailing West Coast's Josh Kennedy (22) and Sydney's Tom Papley (20).

Following three successive victories, Brisbane is sitting in second on the ladder with a 7-2 record, but the shadow of Richmond looms large.

The Lions have lost 14 successive matches against the Tigers, not defeating them since Michael Voss's first year as coach in 2009.

Cameron said there was no mental barriers and said it was a good test to see just "where we're at".

"It's going to be an exciting game," he said.

"I think we need the same mindset as we did on the weekend against Essendon, just went out and locked it in our half, built the pressure. It'll be a cracking game."

Hulking Brisbane defender Jack Payne is expected to make his debut, playing alongside Harris Andrews and Darcy Gardiner against the three-tall Richmond forward line.
