James Aish will line-up for his first match back on home soil this Saturday at Adelaide Oval, five months after heading north to pursue his AFL dream with the Brisbane Lions.

The Aish name is synonymous with football in South Australia, however James is determined to step out of his famous family’s shadow and make a name for himself at his new ‘home’.

He was born into South Australian football royalty, being the son of former Norwood midfielder Andrew Aish, the nephew of 1981 Magarey Medallist Michael Aish, and the grandson of former Redlegs skipper Peter Aish.

James also enjoyed a successful junior career in Adelaide, winning two SANFL premierships with Norwood and Captaining South Australia’s U18 side in the 2013 National Championships.

Aish is one of five former Croweaters who will represent the Lions in their first ever AFL match at the newly refurbished Adelaide Oval – together with Joel Patfull (Norwood), Jack Redden (Glenelg), Justin Clarke (Booleroo) and Sam Mayes (North Adelaide).

Hopefully the Lions’ strong South Australian flavour helps the side claim its first win of the 2014 season this Saturday against Port Adelaide.
