Despite a promising start, the Brisbane Lions Reserves were eventually outclassed by the Sydney Swans Reserves at the SCG on Friday afternoon.
After booting two goals in the opening term and taking a narrow lead into the first break, the Lions were held to just two more goals for the remainder of the match.
It wasn’t necessarily through lack of opportunities either, with the Lions managing 18 scoring shots but proving wasteful in front of goal.
In fact, the Swans finished with just two more scoring shots than the visitors, but were able to produce a relatively comfortable 27-point win – 9.11 (65) to 4.14 (38).
20-year-old key forward Jonathan Freeman was largely responsible for the Lions’ promising start, booting the team’s first three goals before scoring dried up in the second half.
Freeman was listed among the Lions’ better players on the day, along with recently re-signed utility Marco Paparone, Andrew Raines, Nick Robertson, and Jordon Bourke.
Irishman Tommy Walsh was the Swans’ best, while 2012 Norm Smith Medallist Ryan O’Keefe chimed in with a couple of goals.
