At the Lions 2020 Season Launch in March, CEO Greg Swann announced the Club would campaign for 31,000 members and intended to break the Club’s all-time membership record in the 2020 season.

The Club's highest membership tally stands at 30,941 for the 2004 AFL Premiership Season, after the legendary three-peat era.

Cue the COVID-19 pandemic, and the worldwide uncertainty that ensued, and the record now seemed unlikely.

The season was called off abruptly and the Club and its community went into lockdown.

It was at this point that members were given the option to pledge, pause or cancel their memberships, with the resounding majority pledging their support for the footy club and in doing so keeping it alive.

Despite not quite reaching the all-time Club record this year the Club finished the season with 29,277 members making it officially the biggest member-based Club in Queensland – an almighty effort in such an uncertain year.

When the season got back on track, the boys were on fire, finishing the year second on the ladder and winning their first Finals match in 16 years against eventual Premiers Richmond.

Despite being knocked out by Geelong in the Preliminary Final, there’s plenty for members to get excited about next season.

Today the Club launches its 2021 campaign with the tagline I AM LION.

I AM LION will tell the stories of the people who make this Club great - not only those on the field but also those behind the scenes and in the stands. Our people are proud now more than ever to say I AM LION.

This year saw multiple sell out games at the Gabba and the best way to secure your seat at a game in 2021 is to become a member and shout from the rooftops I AM LION!
