Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch admits to feeling a sense of nostalgia towards the imminent return of the guernsey design he wore throughout the majority of his playing days with the Brisbane Lions.

The ‘original’ Lions guernsey that was worn from 1997-2009 will return in 2015 after members voted overwhelmingly in favour of a change at the Club’s Annual General Meeting.

Leppitsch has a proud history in that particular jumper – having worn it in three premierships – but said he’s less concerned with what the team’s wearing and more concerned with how they perform.

“It will be great to see the old jumper back out there again. I’ve still got a few sitting around the house,” Leppitsch said.

“It’s also great for our fans. It gives them a say and an opportunity for them to voice their opinions.

“But I think the bigger issue for the Club is that we win lots of games and play regular Finals from my perspective.”

Leppitsch also said there were no real concerns over Jonathan Brown’s foot, and expects his former premiership teammate to be ready to run again after Christmas.

“His foot’s only a minor thing, it’s just a reaction from putting stress on it from the other foot to be honest,” Leppitsch said.

“Moon boots tend to look terrible, but people have been in them for a week and played a week later, so he’ll be fine after Christmas.”
