Two years ago the Vodafone Brisbane Lions and AFL Queensland developed a joint proposal to create six new junior AFL clubs across the Greater Brisbane region with the support of AFL funding.

The initiative specifically targeted areas with communities that would most benefit from the development of a new junior football club.

Logan's Park Ridge Pirates and The Gap's Hilder Road State School are the two newest teams planning to enter the Brisbane Junior AFL competition in 2009 as part of this program.

These two clubs follow in the 'boot'steps of the Beaudesert Brumbies and the Springfield Lakes Kookaburras who were successfully introduced in 2008.

The Lions and AFL Queensland will assist these new clubs by providing training equipment and supporter packs to their registered players plus a special participation card which allows free entry to Lions' Gabba games when accompanied by an adult.
The Park Ridge Pirates and The Gap's Hilder Road State School are now seeking junior participants from the local area to help create their inaugural squads for 2009.

So budding junior AFL footballers from both Logan and The Gap are invited to attend their respective 'Come and Try' Day this weekend. Lions players Mitch Clark and Phil Smith will be in attendance at The Gap.
