Jaxon Prior will play his first AFL game on home soil after earning a call up to take on Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

It has been some sort of homecoming for Prior this week as the Lions trained at his former WAFL club West Perth’s Joondalup base.

His pride in his former club was obvious as he took great delight in presenting midfield coach Dale Tapping with a Falcons jumper after a midweek session.

And now he’ll get the chance to play in front of many family members and friends at AFL level for the first time.

Rhys Mathieson is the other new face and he will once again assume the midfield role left vacant by Brownlow medal winner Lachie Neale.

Neale was bed-riddden with a stomach bug earlier in the week and although he is on the road to recovery, it was decided it would be in his best interest to miss the match against his former club.

Irishman James Madden has been omitted.
