Cathy Svarc will reach a major AFLW milestone tonight when she plays her 25th AFLW career game.
From being a train-on player with the team three years ago, to now an integral part of the Lions’ pressure game, Svarc says the milestone was one that snuck up on her.
“I never really thought about it,” Svarc said.
“It has just honestly flown by and I wasn’t planning ‘Oh I want to play this many games’, it was just taking each week, month and year as it came along.
“It’s pretty cool to think that three years has gone by without missing a game. I feel like I’ve had an amazing journey so far and am really enjoying it.”
“When I first started, I just loved it straight away and when you enjoy doing something it’s pretty easy to keep enjoying it and working hard at it to get to the next level.”
In just two and a half seasons, her dedication to the game has helped Svarc built a reputation as one of the toughest players to meet in a one-on-one contest, and it’s not hard to see why.
The combination of Svarc’s tackling aggression and her ability to provide run and carry have been integral elements in Brisbane’s high-pressure game over the past few seasons.
Her performance on Thursday against Gold Coast saw Svarc roar to life once again with 12 disposals, 10 tackles, 334 metres gained, six score involvements and a goal of her own.
With her 25th AFLW career game on Monday night, the milestone moment will be even more special for Svarc with her sister Ruby running out alongside her, after she made her AFLW debut in Round 3.
“It’s so exciting to see her getting a run,”
“It’s pretty awesome run out with her, even last week we got a few link ups so that was pretty cool.
“It’s pretty special and to be on that journey together is awesome.”
