The Brisbane Lions AFLW side have been rewarded for their competitive season with four Lions named in the prestigious AFLW All Australian Squad.
Emily Bates, Nat Grider, Greta Bodey and Orla O’Dwyer were all named in the 40-person squad, with the final team to be announced at Tuesday’s W Awards.
A critical player in the Lions engine room, Emily Bates stands a chance to add a third All Australian Blazer to her collection.
The Lions Vice Captain has taken her game to new heights this season, averaging 21.7 disposals, 10.6 contested possessions, 5.6 clearances and 6.9 tackles and asserting herself one of the best midfielders in the competition.
Nat Grider could be making her first trip to the All Australian tailors off the back of a career-best 2022 season.
The 21-year-old stepped up to play an influential role in several Lions’ victories this season, consistently gathering 13.8 disposals, 6.9 intercepts and 154.5 metres gained each game.
Skilful forward Greta Bodey has been rewarded for a breakout season with inclusion in the All Australian squad.
With an average of one goal and 4.3 score involvements per game, Bodey has caused plenty of damage on the scoreboard for the Lions throughout the 2022 season.
Orla O’Dwyer could break through for her first All Australian blazer following her impressive 2022 campaign.
The hard-running Irish woman has been a consistent contributor for the Lions all season, averaging 15.3 disposals, 352.7 metres gained and 4.2 tackles per game, all while still managing to contribute to the scoreboard with six goals of her own across the season.
The final All Australian squad of 21 will be announced at Tuesday night’s W Awards.
