The Brisbane Lions mourn the loss of the Club’s oldest member, May Rush, who passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday morning at the remarkable age of 108.
Rush had supported the Club for more than 90 years, after first following Fitzroy when she moved to Bendigo at the age of 14.
She lived through seven of the Club’s 11 premierships (1913, 1916, 1922, 1944, 2001, 2002 and 2003), and even attended each of the recent three-peat successes despite being well into her nineties at the time.
As a tribute to May’s loyal support over a long period of time, the Lions will wear black armbands this Sunday afternoon at Etihad Stadium and will also present the Rush family with a personalised ‘108’ guernsey at her memorial service to be held in Melbourne next week.
The Club extends its heartfelt sympathies to the entire Rush family.
