The Brisbane Lions’ Senior and NEAFL sides might be out of the running for any silverware this year, but the Club is thrilled that the Fitzroy Football Club’s premiership dream is still very much alive.

Fitzroy FC guaranteed its elevation back into the Premier B Division of the VAFA by qualifying for the Premier C Grand Final with a last gasp win over Williamstown on Saturday.

Two freakish goals in the final minutes – including a match-winner from the boundary by Nathan Jumeau – helped secure Fitzroy a come-from-behind three-point win against the competition’s minor premiers at Bill Lawry Oval in Northcote.

The win not only catapults Fitzroy FC straight into the Grand Final in two weeks’ time, but also ensures their return to B-grade in 2019.

It has been a terrific season for the amateur side, who were relegated from B-grade last year after a difficult season, but have bounced back under new Senior Coach Luke Mahoney.

Fitzroy will now await their Grand Final opponent, to be determined when Williamstown face Old Geelong this weekend.

The Lions maintain a strong association with Fitzroy FC in Melbourne and encourage all members and supporters to show their support for the ‘Royboys’ in the Premier C VAFA Grand Final to be played at 2pm on Saturday, 15 September (venue TBA).

Fitzroy’s reserves also proceeded straight to the Grand Final with a 49-point win over Old Geelong.
