Only halfway through her third AFLW season and Ruby Svarc is providing plenty of spark for her teammates on the field.
The versatile forward shone brightly in Saturdayβs 7-point win over North Melbourne with a thrilling sprint down the wing one of the highlights of the Round.
Svarc gathered the loose ball at half back before speeding off down the wing towards the Lionsβ forward 50. Taking two bounces before passing off to teammate Greta Bodey at the top of the arc, Svarc continued to push forward to lay a tackle on Northβs Sarah Wright in the same passage, rewarded with a free kick.
The stunning solo effort and subsequent goal were duly named among the Round 7 Goal of the Year nominations
It wasnβt the first time this season that Svarc has been a bright spark for the Lions, with her speed and agility working in her favour to slot clever goals against Melbourne (Round 4), the Suns (Round 3) and the Giants (Round 2).
Building on her Season Six performance, itβs those explosive moments that are delighting Lionsβ fans when Svarc gets her hands on the ball.
With Adelaide on the agenda tomorrow night, the Lions will no doubt be looking towards Svarc, as well as fellow speedsters Orla OβDwyer, Jade Ellenger and Sophie Conway to get the ball moving forward and to find the scoreboard in their bid to overcome an experienced Crows outfit.
The Brisbane Lions will play the Adelaide Crows at 7:30PM on Friday October 14 at Metricon Stadium.
