The Brisbane Lions can confirm that a three-way trade has been done with the Gold Coast SUNS and Port Adelaide which sees Pearce Hanley and draft pick no.19 exchanged for a future first-round draft pick and this year’s pick no. 22.
The Lions now have picks 3, 16, 21 and 22 in this year’s NAB National Draft, as well as a first-round pick in next year's Draft which the Gold Coast on-traded from Port Adelaide. In return, the Power received our pick no. 19 from the Gold Coast.
Hanley, 27, has played 129 games over nine seasons with the Lions and was runner-up in the 2013 Merrett-Murray Medal.
Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football David Noble said the deal would help the Club in its drive to pick up more of the nation’s best young talent.
“As part of our trade and draft plan we have to take every opportunity to maximise our picks, bring new talent in and continue our strategy of building for the future.
“Pearce has provided good service to the Club over the past nine years, particularly coming to the Lions as an international rookie, but circumstances saw him want a fresh start.
“We think the deal is a really good result for us, and we wish Pearce all the best in the future."
How the three-way trade will work:
- The Gold Coast SUNS pick up Hanley and receive selection 67 from Port Adelaide
- The Brisbane Lions gain the SUNS’ second round selection (pick 22) and also secure Port Adelaide’s future first round selection in 2017
- The Power acquire the Lions’ first round priority selection (19) and the SUNS’ 30th overall selection
