New Brisbane Lions recruit Jackson Paine says he is excited to come to the Club to gain greater opportunities to play at senior level.

In an exclusive interview with LIONS TV, Paine said that while at the Pies, he was typecast into a position and believes the move to Brisbane will give him a fresh start and an ability to showcase his wares.

“One of the things I disliked with Collingwood is the way they saw me, as sorta (sic) that third tall forward,” Paine said on the Lions' Fancast

“I really want that opportunity to try out for, as you say, the Jonathan Brown role and really jump in his pocket and learn everything he knows about that sort of role”

The 194cm, 98kg key forward who was drafted at the end of 2011 managed six games in his first season with the Magpies but failed to register a senior game in 2013.

Despite a lack of senior appearances, Paine was an integral part of the Collingwood VFL side in 2013, kicking 45 goals in 19 appearances for the Pies’ Reserves and he believes the Lions will be a good fit despite the supporter and financial status of the club not being in the same league as the Magpies.

“From a player’s point of view, like I said, I think opportunity and to be able to play AFL is a thing that people hold in higher regard over the facilities.”

“I think just as important is the culture of the club and I think I’ve made a move into a club that has a pretty strong culture and it’s an exciting time, I think, for the club,” Paine said.

The new Lion, who has recently undergone a shoulder reconstruction, will travel to Arizona next week to begin pre-season with the rest of his teammates.
