Brisbane took their match simulation to Brighton Homes Arena in front of a packed house on Friday afternoon.

Chris Fagan again divided his squad into ‘A’s’ and ‘B’s’, with the ‘A’s’ side ditching the maroon for red guernseys this week.

In a one-sided affair, the red team were hot early, keeping the maroons scoreless in the first quarter and piling on six goals of their own.

Red were clinical in their attack on the footy, with the midfield pairing of Neale, McCluggage, Dunkley and Ashcroft dominant again at the stoppage.

While the scoreboard spoke of a walk-over narrative, there was plenty to take from individual performances that suggested otherwise.

Nakia Cockatoo and Cal Ah Chee were strong around the ball and found themselves in good spots for much of the afternoon, while Dev Robertson showed plenty of flare and defensive pressure that should excite Lions fans.

New Irish recruit, Darragh Joyce got the call up to the Red team and looked comfortable, clunking intercept marks and teaming up nicely with Harris Andrews.

Darcy Wilmot continues to put his best foot forward after his memorable first three games last year, playing across half-back and pushing up the wing on occasion.

Blake Coleman battled hard for the maroon side and was steady in front of goal, kicking two majors, while Brandon Starcevich was as tough as nails, throwing his body into contests time and again.

Zac Bailey (two goals) and Charlie Cameron (four goals) shared best on ground honours, both damaging the scoreboard heavily while providing plenty of headaches for their opposition.

Joe Daniher was at his entertaining best, kicking four majors, including a remarkable 45m snap that sailed through at post height much to the delight of the Brisbane faithful.

Of the Lions VFL-listed players, Riley Greene left teammate’s sore as he battled hard in defence for the maroon side, while Tahj Abberley found plenty of the footy across half-back.

In good news for Brisbane fans, Jarryd Lyons got through Friday’s match sim unscathed after undergoing groin surgery in November and will be hopefully joined by returning teammates Jarrod Berry, Jack Payne and Shadeau Brain in the Lions last intraclub next week.
