The Brisbane Lions will continue its 3-Peat Anniversary celebrations next month when a limited-edition “Hero” guernsey is worn against fierce rivals Essendon and Collingwood.

Launched today, the guernsey, to feature the “side-on” Lion and watermarked names of every player who played a senior game for the Lions between 2001-2003 as well as former coach Leigh Matthews, will honour those that were involved in the merged Club’s Premierships a decade ago. Lions members this morning received the first opportunity to purchase the limited-edition guernsey – to be worn against Essendon (Etihad – Round 8) and Collingwood (The Gabba – Round 10).

Members will receive an exclusive 10% discount when purchasing the Limited Edition "Hero" guernsey using their My Lions account number online, or in person at the Lions Shop. The exclusive product is only available at the Lions Shop – located on the Ground Level of the Hyundai Centre, 812 Stanley Street, Woolloongabba, or online at lionsshop.com.au for a limited time only.

The guernsey will retail for $159.95.

Lions CEO, Malcolm Holmes, said: “Everyone at the Brisbane Lions is proud to be able to honour our Premiership players in this manner.

“Wearing the “side-on” Lion guernsey against both Essendon and Collingwood ensures our fan base in Brisbane and Melbourne get to be a part of the celebrations.

“Every player involved in those great teams between 2001 – 2003 will also be honoured with their name watermarked in the guernsey.

“It’s a fitting tribute and continues our celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the 3-Peat era.”

Brisbane Lions’ co-captain, Jonathan Brown, said he was excited at the chance to pull on the “Hero” jumper once again.

“While I love our current jumper, this guernsey is special to many because of those three flags,” said Brown.

“There probably aren’t too many of us left that have played in the guernsey so we’ll be out to do it proud when we take on the Bombers and ‘Pies.”

While the Club understands the importance of honouring past greatness, the modern Lions logo – the one now seen from the Hyundai Lions Academy, right through to AFL – won’t be changing.

Holmes said the logo would not be changing and there are no plans to consider any change.

“The modern Lions logo covers the entire Club – from the Hyundai Lions Academy, right up to our stars in the AFL,” Holmes said.

“The “Hero” guernsey will definitely be limited-edition so we’d encourage members and fans that want to secure a piece of history to get in quick.”

The launch of the guernsey follows the Club’s incredibly successful Back-to-Back-to-Back function that was held in Brisbane in March.

Around 1,200 Lions members and fans attended the lunch to celebrate and re-live the 3-Peat era.
