AFL Queensland is pleased to announce the Queensland Football Hall of Fame is back, with a new group of inductees to be honoured at a Hall of Fame event for the first time in 15 years.

In 2008, AFL Queensland launched the Hall of Fame in the code’s 150th year to recognise the players, coaches, administrators, volunteers, teams, media, and venues that have made a most significant contribution to the game of Australian football in the state.

At the inaugural event, 150 players, coaches, officials, umpires, and media representatives were inducted, including seven ‘Legends’ of the game – Arthur Collinson, Jason Dunstall, Harry O’Callaghan, Michael Voss, Leigh Matthews, Tom McArthur, and Dick Verdon.

The last Hall of Fame induction was in 2016, however this will be the first gala event since its inaugural year in 2008.

Because it has been seven years since the last intake, this year 86 people will be inducted into the Queensland Football Hall of Fame with eight current inductees to be elevated to Legend status.

Head of AFL Queensland Trisha Squires said it was an important program and the time is right to bring it back.

“Queensland has a long and proud history of Australian Football and it’s important we recognise those who helped pave the way,” she said.

“These inductees will go down in history for their contribution to the game here in Queensland and the part they have played in the game’s success so far.”

Chair of AFL Queensland Dean Warren said, “I’ve been involved with Australian Football in Queensland for over 35 years, so I know a lot of the new inductees from either playing with or against them, knowing them as volunteers or just being around community clubs with them.”

“It was such a privilege to call the new inductees personally to let them know that they were being inducted into the Queensland Football Hall of Fame, it’s thoroughly deserved by all 86 inductees.

“Australian football has such a rich history here in Queensland and it’s imperative we acknowledge those who have left a lasting legacy in the sport and thank them for their contribution.”

The Queensland Football Hall of Fame event will be held on November 4 with the inductees to be announced in the lead up to the night.
