Brisbane Lions small forward Charlotte Mullins is the AFLW Rising Star nominee for Round 9, following her performance against St Kilda on Saturday.
After making her debut in round one this season, Mullins has played every game in 2023 and is the Club’s first nomination this year.
The versatile young forward collected 11 disposals – nine of which were contested – in a tough game at RSEA Park.
Mullins recorded six kicks, five handballs, seven tackles and also hit the scoreboard with a goal.
Booting five goals so far this year and averaging nearly 10 possessions per game this season, the 19-year-old also celebrated her birthday on Saturday.
“We’ve been really impressed with how Charlie has built game on game and continued to develop,” Brisbane Lions AFLW senior coach Craig Starcevich said.
“Having come into the group last season, while she was still at school, you can see how she’s really used the preseason as a springboard into this year.”
A product of the Lions Academy, Mullins was drafted by Brisbane with pick 70 in the 2022 AFLW draft out of Aspley and played community footy at North Lakes.
A consistent contributor across her first nine games, has earned Mullins high praise from Starcevich.
“Charlie is someone who can impact in a number of different ways across the ground, her ability to build forward pressure is something we really value,” Starcevich highlighted.
“She was a real shining light for us last weekend and she’s definitely earned this nomination with her body of work this season.”
