On Friday night the Brisbane Lions AFLW Premiership winning team celebrated a successful 2023 campaign in style at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Talented midfielder Ally Anderson took out the Best and Fairest award, her third, by 10 votes from runner-up and fellow midfielder Belle Dawes with Irish winger Orla O’Dwyer in third place.
The night was filled with other recognition of outstanding seasons from a number of players who contributed to the Lions claiming the flag.
Charlotte Mullins was awarded The Rising Star Award after a stellar debut season where she booted eight goals including the first Lions major of the 2023 NAB AFLW Grand Final.
Vice-captain Nat Grider received the All For One Award in another outstanding season for the key defender who was named the 2023 All-Australian squad and played a pivotal role in the Lions 17-point win over North Melbourne in last Sunday’s Grand Final.
Young gun Lily Postlethwaite had to wait 1503 to play 25 games and was awarded The Lionhearted Award after producing her best season to date and was a key cog in the Lions forward set up.
Small-forward Courtney Hodder who laid an incredible 18 tackles on Grand Final day unsurprisingly won The Most Relentless Award, demonstrating the manic pressure the Lions pride themselves on.
Dawes, who finished second in the Best and Fairest count, was also awarded Trademark Player of 2023, a career-year for the 22-year-old who was named in the 22under22 team.
The energetic midfielder also won the fan voted YOUI Game Changer Award for her string of strong performances in 2023.
