Brisbane Lions fans in Victoria are in for a treat when the Lions visit Melbourne this weekend with Captain Jonathan Brown booked to make a special appearance.

Brown, who remains sidelined with multiple facial fractures, will make the trip down with his team-mates after receiving clearance to fly from his surgeons earlier this week.

While Brown unfortunately won’t be lining up with the team against Richmond at the MCG, he will be the special guest at a range of events across that weekend.

It will the inspirational skipper’s first visit to Melbourne for a match in 2011 after his scheduled appearance at the Victorian Family Fun Day was cancelled after he contracted a knee infection on the eve of the season.

Brown will arrive in Melbourne early Friday to join some of his fellow premiership team-mates at the Club’s 2001 Premiership Tribute Luncheon held at Etihad Stadium’s Victory Room before being the special guest at the Historical Society function on Friday night, which is also being hosted at Etihad Stadium (Captain’s Bar).

Kevin Murray Club members and guests will get the rare opportunity to mingle with the Lions Captain at the Club’s official pre-match function at the MCG together with regular guest of honour and Lions Legend Kevin Murray.

Brown will also spend time catching up with Victorian-based junior Lions members and player sponsors on Sunday morning to complete his busy Melbourne schedule.

It promises to be a bumper weekend for Lions fans in Victoria from Friday 29 April until Sunday 1 May.
