The Brisbane Lions VFL will be looking to turn their fortunes around this weekend as they travel to Southport to take on the Sharks.
Round 5 of Smithy’s VFL action serves up a local derby with both sides sitting at two wins and two losses for the season so far.
The Lions will drive down the highway to Fankhauser Reserve after falling short by three points to Geelong in their last outing at Brighton Homes Arena.
Lions VFL coach, Ben Hudson was optimistic after back-to-back losses and was quick to note there were plenty of learnings to take away.
“We’ve played some really good footy in the last two weeks but have just let ourselves down in key moments,” he said.
“North and Geelong are two really good sides and it shows the depth of this competition that you need to put in a full four quarter effort to come away with the chocolates.
“This weekend gives us a great chance to do that and start to build some momentum.”
The Lions sit ninth on the VFL ladder with Southport behind only on percentage in eleventh following a one-point win over Essendon in Melbourne last weekend.
This weekend will also mark the first meeting between former Lions VFL forward Wylie Buzza and his old side, in what shapes to be an entertaining contest.
Last time we met
