The Brisbane Lions VFL side are back in the winner’s circle this week after coming from 26 points down to defeat the Casey Demons on Saturday afternoon.

A starring role from Lions development coach and former GWS GIANT, Daniel Lloyd with three goals, helped keep Brisbane in the hunt throughout the first half despite Casey holding all the momentum.

A second half fight back saw the Lions storm to their fourth victory in 2024 and keeping them within touching distance of the top 10 and finals.

Jarryd Lyons stood tall in the midfield with 32 disposals, five marks and seven clearances.

While Deven Robertson, who returned from a shoulder injury put his hand up for senior selection with a crucial final quarter goal along with 22 touches and eight tackles.

Six goals to two in first term with three of those coming in the last five minutes hurt the Lions after a see-sawing open quarter.

Both sides tightened up defensively in the second quarter with the Lions looking to move the ball laterally to ignite its offense as Zac Derksen and Lloyd added another two goals to Brisbane’s tally.

Trailing by 19 points at the main break, the Lions midfield through Lyons, Robertson and young gun, James Tunstill began to take control at the coalface.

Tunstill finished with 27 possessions and nine marks to play a pivotal role in linking up the Lions attack.

Lions VFL coach, Ben Hudson’s half-time address worked wonders for his side who swung momentum back in their favour.

Despite not making the most of their chances in front of the sticks, goals from Jake Lohmann, Owen Collins and draftee Luke Lloyd helped the Lions inch their way closer to the lead.

Rebound off half back spurred the Lions attack forays with Tahj Abberley and Jimmy Madden’s pace catching the eye, Darragh Joyce also led from the front with a game-high 15 marks.

Robertson’s goal within 40 seconds of play resuming in the fourth term cut a five-point three-quarter time margin to a one-point lead.

Seven behinds for the remainder of the game were enough for the Lions to hold on as they kept the Demons to just two goals after quarter time.

The win sees the Lions move to four wins and three losses for the season with another trip to Melbourne on the cards in Round 11 as they take on the Box Hill Hawks.
