The race to September begins!

The bye rounds are behind us, teams jostling to separate themselves on what is a congested ladder, and our boys are hitting their stride.

So, Lions fans get ready for another big clash against the Dees, as we take a look at this weeks Match Preview.

Last Time We Met

Last time: Brisbane 12.10 (82) d Melbourne 8.12 (60) Round 5, 2024

It was a night to celebrate as our Lions got the job done at the MCG in co-captain Lachie Neale’s 250th game.

In wintery conditions, our Lions posted a 22-point victory over Melbourne and our first win at the MCG since 2022. Our usual midfield culprits were at their mighty best, led by Cam Rayner's 25 disposals and nine clearances, alongside Lachie Neale (24 disposals, eight clearances) and Josh Dunkley (30 disposals, nine marks). The connection between our midfield and forward line was clear, with Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood, kicking two goals each across the opening term.

A late surge from Melbourne wasn't enough to overcome the 43-point deficit at the final change. Under Friday night lights our Lions will be looking to repeat recent history against the Dees with a strong start in front of a big Gabba crowd!

Excited About

Ashy’s Return!

Lions’ fans can all rejoice as this is a moment that we’ve all been waiting for.

Brisbane Lions midfielder, Will Ashcroft will make his long-awaited return against Melbourne under the Gabba lights this Friday night.

After suffering an ACL injury in round 19 last year, Ashcroft will line up for the first time this season, giving Fages another lever to pull within the midfield.

We’re sure there will be plenty of cheers when Ashy steps foot onto the Gabba and we wish him all the best in his return!

Match-ups we're keen for

Eric Hipwood vs Jake Lever

Our boy Hippy has been lighting it up!

In our last three matches Eric Hipwood has averaged 4.3 goals, 11.3 marks and 8.3 score involvements. As he looks to continue his mid-season surge, he’ll have the company of Melbourne defender Jake Lever. Lever returns from injury and will be looking to give the demons an extra boost in defence as these two men square off to help their sides break out of the logjam that is the middle of the ladder.

It's going to be a battle of the tall timber, but we back our man Hippy to fight the good fight and continue at his goal kicking best!
