An undermanned Gold Coast Suns outfit posed no challenge to the Brisbane Lions in last Saturday’s NEAFL Round 6 encounter.

The Lions restricted the Suns to just four points and piled on 96 of their own.

Despite the one-sided encounter, NEAFL Coach Mitch Hahn was pleased with how his side maintained their pressure and intent the whole game and didn’t let up.

“It was a really pleasing performance, especially to hold Gold Coast to four points,” Hahn said.

“Unfortunately, they weren’t as strongly listed as we were, it was 11 listed players versus 19.

“It’s a tough game to judge how well we actually played, considering the opposition weren’t at full strength.”

Blustery conditions made goalkicking difficult, as evidenced by the fact the Lions scored 24 behinds and five other shots went out on the full. 

The Suns also had troubles inside their forward 50, with the Lions defence restricting them to just four scoring shots off 26 inside 50s.  

“We were disappointed with the way we finished off in front of goal but were pleased with how we defended.”

“Ryan Lester coming back in again was superb, he ended up with 15 contested possessions, 15 score involvements and two goals.

“Marco Paparone, who missed a lot of last year is really starting to find some form.

“All of our guys had really strong contributions.”

Currently riding a four-game winning streak and with easily the best percentage in the league, the Lions host the Redland Bombers at Coorparoo at 12pm this Sunday, giving fans just enough time to catch the game before heading over to the Gabba for Lions v Hawthorn.
