Josh Walker says he is excited to begin the next chapter of his career with the Lions.
Walker was traded from Geelong to the Lions along with big-bodied midfielder Jarrad Jansen during last month’s AFL Trade Period.
“I was reasonably happy with my year, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was able to play some alright footy.
“Geelong had traded a few in (during the off-season) and I thought the best thing for my career going forward was to perhaps go somewhere where I can have a bit more opportunity,” Walker told SEN.
“Thankfully Brisbane were pretty keen for me to come up. I went up, met a few people and had a look around and I was pretty impressed with the place.”
Walker said he is confident he will be capable of providing a reliable key forward target while the emerging young forwards on Brisbane’s list find their feet.
“They were pretty hard done by with injuries last year as has been well publicised, but they’ve got a young, exciting list.
“At Geelong there was a lot of older players around me, but that’s not so much the case up in Brisbane,” he said.
“I will have to step up a little bit and take on a bit more responsibility and perhaps teach the younger guys anything I can, but at the same time, I’m still learning as well.
“I think it’ll be really good, I’m really excited for the next step and to further my career.”
