Nick Robertson will play his first AFL Finals Series match this Saturday night after being named in Senior Coach Chris Fagan’s team to take on the GIANTS in the second Semi Final at The Gabba.
Robertson comes in for an injured Mitch Robinson who wounded his hamstring in last week’s loss to Richmond.
Robertson has been a consistently strong performer in the Club’s undefeated NEAFL side, alternating between mid-forward, midfield, and the forward line. He has played four senior games for the Lions this year, with his last being Round 12’s loss to Carlton.
Fagan told media earlier this week he has no doubt Robinson’s replacement will step up to the occasion.
“It’s what the good Clubs can do, they can find replacements for guys when they’re injured,” he said.
“We’ve had a great run, it’s unfortunate for Mitch, but I know someone else will step up.”
The last time the Lions met the GIANTS they came home from Sydney with a victory but is expecting a heated clash on Saturday night.
“The contested ball, clearance battle is the huge one in the game,” he said.
“That’s their strength, that’s our strength as well.”
Tickets are still available for the Lions last home game of the year and Fagan said the crowd have been instrumental to their success in 2019.
“It’s just fantastic, the last two games it’s been a full house at The Gabba,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get another one this weekend.
“Credit to our players, coaches, football department and our whole Club for the way we’ve been able to rebuild and capture the imagination of the people in Brisbane. “
