The Brisbane Lions will put more time into goal-kicking practice this week after missed opportunities in the first quarter against the Giants on Saturday.
“We didn’t do that in the first quarter which was really disappointing because we felt that we created enough opportunities early in the game but didn’t convert,” Backline Coach Murray Davis told lions.com.au.
A positive from the afternoon was the Lions’ defensive pressure. Last time they met GWS scored 146 points. This time they were restricted to 77.
“I think that’s one of the little wins we take away from the game. I think they took a lot of marks inside 50 last year as well and their keys hit the scoreboard – so we were able to reduce their influence on the game,” Davis said.
The Lions back six including Harris Andrews, Darcy Gardiner and Alex Witherden were all strong.
“We feel they are really making improvements in their games and Darcy, to go up against Jeremy Cameron, who we rate really highly, and do a really good job on minimising his game was first class.”
Daniel Rich played his first game in five weeks. He will be stronger for the run in his legs.
“For him to come in and have the impact he did, we were really pleased with that.”
